Apprentice Butchers

Apprentice butchers are fairing very well at your local butchers; The Hollies.  4 young men are working at The Hollies Butchery at both Little Budworth and Lower Stretton whilst obtaining their NVQ Level 2 Meat & Poultry qualifications through Reaseheath College, Nantwich.  Tristan, Jonny, Jamie and Stefan are all benefitting from working at The Hollies Butchery whilst their tutor visits and educates whilst in the work environment.

The meat and poultry sector of the food industry is a significant employer in the UK, in light of this Reaseheath have recently had a  £7million investment in their food processing plant and developed courses to reflect this employment market.  Our 4 apprentices work alongside our professional butchers with many years of experience, enabling them to obtain qualifications whilst learning from the experts.  Tristan, age 19 said “I have really enjoyed my NVQ.  I have learnt a lot, from knowing nothing to feeling like a fully fledged Butcher.  I have learnt from my tutor and from the Master Butcher, Andrew at The Hollies.”

Andrew Vernon, Master Butcher, said “the apprenticeship scheme is bringing life back into the butchery trade, a skill that is acquired by fewer people in more recent times.  We are really excited to be working with the next generation of butchers, who will inject new ideas into the business and create a future for themselves and the industry.  It is so important that we have skilled butchers to ensure full traceability of quality meats and give our customers the cuts and the knowledge that they need.”

The Hollies Butchery offers the best quality cuts of meat that are fully traceable.  There are a variety of homemade / home-cured products such as sausages, bacon, burgers and many seasonal alternatives such as pork loin with asparagus and apricot and the latest Spring special of Crispy Chicken Shallot; fresh chicken marinated in a shallot marinade, in breadcrumbs with trimmings of spring onion and toasted onion.

Come and meet your local butchers the next time you’re at The Hollies, they are always happy to help with cuts and cooking ideas.
