Cheshire Honey
Cheshire Honey Farms produce their honey in the heart of Cheshire.
Made in Warrington, Cheshire.
Mayflower apiaries is run by Ed Peirson and Chris Goldsmith. Together
they run over 400 hives in 50 apiaries in Cheshire. During the summer
months they are managing in excess of 20 million worker honeybees.
The bees collecting nectar and pollen from flowers which may be
up to three miles away from their hives.
Owner Ed says “I have kept bees for over 30 years and
what started as a pastime
has now become a full time job. I gave up my teaching career to
concentrate on
honey production and making my lifetime hobby pay- a drop in salary
but the
best job in the world for me.”
The main sources of nectar for the bees are oil seed rape, field
beans, blackberry, balsam and willowherb. However, the bees work
hundreds of other flowers in hedgerows, pastures and gardens. The
bees convert this nectar into honey. At Mayflower Apiaries the honey
is extracted, warmed and gravity filtered only so that the fine
qualities of the honey are not removed.
