Meet Charlie

Meet Charlie, who at just 21 has already proved himself to be a great asset to the business. Charlie started at The Hollies Little Budworth back in August 2011 working weekends in the Butchery department whilst studying for his A-Levels in biology, business studies and economics at Sir John Deans College. His role in the Butchery started with keeping the counter and fridges topped up to showcase the products on sale and he soon progressed to serving on the counter and learning some basic butchery skills. Always happy to help, Charlie led the team on Sundays and after finishing his A-levels became a full-time member of staff.

Late on in the summer of 2013, Charlie started to help out in the Delicatessen counter, putting his customer service skills to good use, he served the customers with a smile and also helped out in both the prep kitchen and on the shop floor. In January and February 2014 Charlie’s skills were required up in Scotland as work started on The Hollies’ Highland Hotel; Muckrach Country House Hotel. Alongside Danny, Charlie was involved with removing the plaster and stripping the hotel back to brick. April took him up there again to assist with plaster-boarding and the internal re-structuring within the hotel.

The Directors noticed Charlie’s passion and enthusiasm for the business and his ability to apply himself to any task that was given to him. When an administrative position became available for someone to work closely alongside them in the office, he was a natural choice for the role. As well as having a close working relationship with the Directors, Charlie’s key role is managing the Forest Lodges; taking bookings, answering enquiries, ordering linen, showing people around and maintaining a good relationship with the housekeepers. Charlie’s role has grown to encompass the ever growing business and he works hard to juggle his many tasks, from number crunching in the accounts to printing out signs and labels for the shop; nothing is too much trouble for Charlie.

At The Hollies we are committed to staff development and progression and we have a number of employees that have gained, or are working towards, NVQ qualifications whilst they work. Charlie himself has just started a Business Admin NVQ Level 4 at Mid Cheshire College in Hartford and is looking forward to learning new skills that he can apply to his ever developing role.
