Wimbledon

Strawberries and cream have long been associated with Wimbledon, the oldest tennis tournament in the world that started back in 1877. The origin of this ritual is simply that the British strawberry season just happened to coincide with the dates of the tennis tournament so caterers would serve strawberries at the event, and the tradition was born.

According to Wimbledon’s catering company, last year spectators consumed around 23,000 kilograms of strawberries at the tournament which were served with 10,000 litres of fresh cream!

Wimbledon fortnight starts this year on the 3rd July. To make sure you too enjoy Wimbledon traditionally and think of summer, The Hollies Farm Shops will have lots of fresh juicy British strawberries available every day.  Why not splash a helping of Longley Farm fresh cream on them too? From the 3rd – 16th July you can enjoy strawberries & cream and a glass of fizz for £7.95 in both our Little Budworth and Lower Stretton Coffee Shops.

Keep up to date with all the Wimbledon action on their website.
