British Sandwich Week
Our Coffee Shops at both Little Budworth and Lower Stretton offer a wide range of delicious artisan sandwiches on their lunch menus every day. British Sandwich week is a week-long celebration of an iconic British culinary invention and this year it falls from the 20th – 26th May. But do you know where the term sandwich came from?
Ever since John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich in the 18th century ordered cold beef between slices of toast to avoid getting up from his card game, his name has become synonymous with the concept. Whilst meat and bread were staples long before the Earl of Sandwich tucked into one, he gave rise to the idea of having one as a convenient meal while getting on with other things!
Make sure you look out for various daily specials on offer throughout British Sandwich Week alongside the main menu in both our Coffee Shops.
Our team at Lower Stretton will have two sandwiches on their specials for the whole week, choose from The Hollies Club Sandwich, a triple decker chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato and egg mayo sandwich served with sweet potato fries and homemade coleslaw and The Hollies Breaded Fish Finger sandwich with crispy lettuce, tartare sauce, side salad and chunky chips.
