Second Son Gin Summer Edition
The Hollies’ Gin of the Month this July is Second Son Summer Edition. Second Son Gin is distilled by John Whitlow locally to us at the Second Sons Distillery at The Tigers Head in Norley, Cheshire. By only making batches of 32 bottles they are truly a micro-distillery; in fact they are currently the UK’s smallest commercial licensed gin distillery!
John Whitlow first started working at The Hollies Farm Shop when he was 16 years old where he helped us out selling Christmas Trees at the weekend. At this time, John’s Dad had been supplying The Hollies with home-grown vegetables for many years, building a great friendship with Richard Cowap, 2nd generation of The Hollies Farm Shop family.
Second Son’s Summer Edition is a classic dry and fruity distilled gin that is infused with fresh strawberries, rhubarb and ground ginger. Initially the strawberry comes through heavily on the nose, followed by the rhubarb and ginger on the palate.
For the perfect serve, John tells us it mixes amazingly with a light ginger ale and a slither of fresh orange. John says it is very smooth to drink neat over ice but can be enjoyed equally as well with Fever Tree slimline tonic and fresh raspberries.
